When searching for value and convenience to accommodate longer stays, I’m a fan of apartment hotels, and Veriu is one of the leaders in this space with 25 boutique establishments spread across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra.
On a recent trip to Sydney we checked into a two bedroom apartment at Veriu Camperdown.
Location is one of the key attractions at Veriu Camperdown. It’s a five minute walk to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and buses stop right out the front to whisk you into the centre of Sydney in around 20 minutes. Whilst located on busy Parramatta Road, the apartments have solid walls and glazing to ensure guests are in no way interrupted by traffic noise.
One of the main things we like about apartment hotels, particularly for extended stays, is space and the two-bedder we stayed in at Veriu is a very comfortable 85sqm.
The apartments are all connected to a big open atrium filled with lush palm trees and herb gardens.
Featuring a big and comfortable combined lounge/kitchen area, a bonus is the big deck off the living area. The two bedrooms both have excellent king size beds and lots of wardrobe space, and each bedroom has its own adjoining bathroom. To accommodate families, bedding can be changed to single beds on request.
Wi-fi, big screen TV, air conditioning, washer and dryer are standard. This Veriu location is also perfect for family or friend groups with one, two, three and four bedroom apartments available.
Furnishings throughout, whilst not luxurious, are comfortable. The only let-down we had, which tends to be common in a lot of apartment hotels, is lack of kitchen facilities - in fact, a friend who travels using apartment hotels wherever possible, says she always takes along a few pots and pans and a set of good knives in the boot. During our stay we found there were simply not enough knives, forks and cooking utensils to do any serious cooking. The hot plate was small but there was a good oven, fridge and dishwasher, so the kitchen area was good for heating up food and would be fine overall for two people but any larger group would struggle a bit. It was mainly Uber Eats for us, yet this really was not a big deal as there are some great funky cafes nearby. Our favourite for great coffee and breakfast was Deus Café, a two minute walk from the apartment. And of course, head in one direction to the eclectic Inner West or the other direction into Chinatown and you will probably say, ‘Who wants to cook in anyway?’
And finally a big shout out to the staff at Veriu Camperdown who could not be more friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a great stay at an affordable price - these range from around $250+ per night for a one bedroom, to $500+ per night for a four bedroom, depending on dates.
